Anthony Travalgia: Could Connor Clifton eventually fill Torey Krug's role? With Torey Krug entering the final year of his contract, Connor Clifton could be a replacement for his production down the road.

No, as resigning Kruger should be a priority.
Next year we likely lose Big Z which will take a bit off the books, plus we won't be paying for Sides nor Belesky.
Take the cash and add it to the pile for Krug.

Wow, some richards in here. I wish the pens blogger could write articles like this. At least you are writing about something other than feedback on free agent signings that have been written about dozens of times already in the last few days.

You're right, he very likely won't be Krug, and resigning Krug should definitely be a priority, but at least you have someone in the pipeline who looks to be able to contribute effectively.

If in two years the D Core is:
MCavoy Carlo
Krug Vaak
Gryz Clifton.

I think we are in good shape.

I like that, but would like to see Zboril or Lauzon slot in somewhere to get some size back there. They are a bit small. lol

Which is why we need to hold onto Miller.
We lost McQuaid, Thornton in recent years and we can't expect nor want Z being our enforcer.
Miller adds that level of "don't you (frank)ing dare" that we sorely missed when he was out repeatedly this year.
No one else can fill that role as effectively, Backes tried but he is no where near as fearsome as Miller.

Apparently Big Z signed a one year in Colorado according to their blog.... too bad they are misguided as to who the REAL Big Z is.

chara gets 2 mil next year. Cheap, super cheap, he's not a cap problem. If they were gonna trade Krug, ( I don't want them to, but its a salary cap league) is value may never be higher.
Thought Johansen signed pretty cheap too, but different story.
